Dice talks about Star Wars Battlefront II's loot boxes

Each loot crate has been detailed to contain more than just cosmetic items - the crates will contain Star Cars, Weapons and "other" valuable resources.

The publisher said that duplicate Star Cards earned through Crates will be turned into crafting parts which allows users to upgrade their weapons and Star Card abilities.

There's great news for you if you were unable to get in on the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 open beta that went live for everyone this past weekend. You'll also get instant access to a special The Last Jedi-themed Millennium Falcon, as well as an epic Lightsaber Mastery Star Card for Yoda. Hopefully this makes Battlefront 2 a much fairer game, and nullifies the overall value of loot boxes so that they don't become intrusive for players who don't want to fork out more cash.

Addressing player concerns that loot crates could effectively lead to pay-to-win scenarios for Battlefront 2, DICE explained that, "as a balance goal", it's working to implement a system where the most powerful items can only be earned via in-game achievements.

EA and Dice's statement specifies that we didn't see the full version of the crates and progression system in the beta, and that they're still tweaking the systems. You can only upgrade or unlock them if you have reached a high enough rank, which is determined by playing the game.

"Like everything else, we will be continually making necessary changes to ensure the game is fun for everyone", says the blog.

Extending the beta also gives the developers a good idea of what bugs there might be left that still need to be iron out.

The Battlefront beta closed on Thursday after being extended for 2 extra days and the full game will release on November 14.

"Rest assured, we're continuing to listen to you coming out of Beta".

We're far from the only ones that have had similar concerns, with the imminent Star Wars: Battlefront II having one of the most worrying set-ups.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a first-person action shooter in development at DICE and is scheduled to launch this fall for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
