US Revokes Visa Of Kremlin Foe Bill Browder

Bill Browder is a US -born British citizen whose Moscow-based investment company was robbed of $230 million over a decade ago by well-connected Russians via a scheme that involved intimidation and tax fraud. Magnitsky died after accusing Russian officials of stealing government money in a tax fraud scheme.

Canada is the latest country moving ahead to adopt the Magnitsky Act. Further calls confirmed he had been added to Interpol's list via an arrest demand, known as a "diffusion". Browder accused Russian authorities of murdering his friend.

The State Department revoked the visa of a US -born businessman and chief critic of Vladimir Putin after Russian Federation exposed a loophole and unilaterally added him to Interpol's wanted list, The Guardian reported.

The State Department doesn't appear to have yet commented on the situation; I've put in a request for more information and will update this post when and if they respond.

Moscow has a habit of using Interpol against its enemies and has previously used the global police organisation to pursue what many western governments view as a vendetta against Browder.

Browder pushed lawmakers to pass the Magnitsky Act, named for his friend Sergei Magnitsky, a Russian lawyer.

Russian Federation has attempted to use Interpol to arrest Browder before: He was convicted of tax evasion in absentia in Russian Federation back in 2013.

Based in France and involving 190 countries, Interpol describes its objective as enabling "police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place'".
