Respawn Is Now Officially A Part Of EA

Respawn Entertainment

Respawn Entertainment

Respawn was an independent studio based in Los Angeles until today but it looks as though everything that they're now developing is still going ahead as planned such as the Star Wars action game, which EA had contracted Respawn to make earlier this year. The publisher will pay $151 million in cash to acquire the studio, and up to $164 million in stock options along with an "additional variable cash consideration of up to $140 million that is contingent upon achievement of certain performance milestones, relationg to the development of future titles, through the end of calendar 2022".

"We have worked together a long time from the inception of the studio", Zampella told Venturebeat. "My message is we are still Respawn and we are going to make things better".

In addition to a new Titanfall game, Respawn is working on an untitled game set in the Star Wars universe and a virtual reality first-person combat experience for Oculus.

EA has served as the publisher of Respawn's games so far, including last year's Titanfall 2. "This is a great next step for Respawn, EA, and our players", Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said. That changes today, as EA has announced it has acquired the California-based developer and the Titanfall IP along with it. "Together, we've brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more unbelievable things in the future". Titanfall 2 was tremendously received past year despite poor sales which are widely pinned on the timing of the launch.

Whatever it is, we'll likely hear more about it soon with EA taking charge of Respawn.
