Fiba President Horacio Muratore, an Argentine, said that it was a tough call for the Central Board as both groups made "outstanding work" to win the hosting task.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Chairman Emeritus Manuel V. Pangilinan, who led the contingent of the joint bidders from Asia, said the task of hosting an event of such magnitude will bring joy to the 500 million people living in the three countries.

"Winning the bid to host FIBA 2023 World Cup together with Japan and Indonesia marks the country's re-emergence and rising in the world of worldwide sports", Andanar said in a statement. However, FIBA Central Board voted for China, 14-7, over the Philippines to host the 2019 tournament. Then, the knockout stage beginning the quarterfinals will all be staged in the Philippines. There's another thing to look forward to after 2022, start saving.

Andanar expects that the hosting of the sports event would boost tourism and investments in the country.

Manny V. Pangilinan, who spearheaded the challenge, said the semis and the finals will be played at the Philippine Arena, which means the Fiba World Cup will see record crowds, which is again a big boost to our image in global sports.

The three countries beat South American partners Argentina and Uruguay for the hosting rights of the 2023 World Cup.

The Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, PhilSports Arena in Pasig, the Istora Senayan in Jakarta, and the Okinawa Arena in Okinawa will be the venues for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Thirty-two teams from basketball federations of various FIBA member countries will be competing for the coveted world basketball title.

The Philippines-Indonesia-Japan consortium placed a bid to host the FIBA basketball games for 2023.
