Redmond went public on the matter after an article in The Sun newspaper accused Guardiola of aiming foul and abusive language towards him and insisted the Catalan's "intense and aggressive" approach was wholly well-intentioned.

Guardiola, who has until December 4 to respond to the FA, said after Wednesday's match that the reason he appeared to be exchanging angry words with Redmond was because of Southampton's "time-wasting" tactics.

Pep Guardiola has been forced to address the confrontation between himself and Nathan Redmond after Manchester City beat Southampton with a last minute victor by Raheem Sterling. "I did the same after a game in Dortmund and I had regrets then after the game and the same now, he explained".

"[Guardiola] commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game, in a similar way to last season", Redmond said.

"I told him I was doing what my manager had asked me to do in the game". I say I am not surprised. The can do that with me, with Nathan and with The Sun.

"Players have the right to do that and I don't blame the clubs because the clubs, they try".

Redmond took to Twitter on Thursday night to brush off the conversation as "positive and complimentary" although Guardiola admitted on Friday he regrets his actions.

"Losing the game the way we did in the last kick of the game after working so hard for 90+ minutes I was very disappointment (sic) but when one of the worlds best managers compliments you or gives advice in any way, you listen".

But the sixth minute of stoppage time saw Sterling curl a brilliant shot into the top right-hand corner, a goal that produced delirious scenes at the Etihad Stadium, with Guardiola running onto the middle of the pitch in joyful celebration.

But having reviewed footage of the incident, the FA have sought Guardiola's version of events. They defended with 10 players in the box because they believed this was the best way.
