Michael Strahan 'pissed off' about Giants' decision to bench Eli Manning

That remains to be seen, but for right now, he's having another MVP-level season while Manning struggles in NY.

Giants co-owner John Mara said Wednesday, "having him definitively come out at the end of the first half - I can understand why (Manning) would object". Throughout the process, Manning has handled it with professionalism while still airing that he didn't agree with the decision to bench him in favor of backup Geno Smith.

Not being at the team's headquarters Tuesday when Manning was devastated by the decision topped the list.

"He's a special player, and a special person", Mara said of Manning.

"It's eye-opening that you have to take every play, every game, don't take it for granted, take it for what it is because you never know when you're done". Eli's career in NY will likely have no such fairy tale ending. He thought the 36-year-old face of the franchise would accept starting his 211th consecutive game on Sunday, then handing off to Smith in second half.

Strahan also added that he didn't feel like the Giants did enough to help Manning succeed on the field this year.

"I was upfront and honest with Eli", McAdoo said, according to ESPN.com's Jordan Raanan. Interestingly, the Giants actually gave him the option to continue starting so he could keep his streak intact, but he turned down the opportunity.

Mara spoke to general manager Jerry Reese about two weeks ago and said it was time to start evaluating the backups. The Giants have had a woeful season at 2-9 and Manning has clearly not played up to his two-time Super Bowl-winning standard. Reese had informed Mara about the change on Monday.

"It's fair to say I have gotten a lot of feedback from fans and they are not happy", he said.

Although many players have ripped the Giants for benching Manning, Strahan's words might burn a little more since he's one of the most prolific players in team history. "That will be a discussion".
