The suspected body of Julia Jacobson and her dog, Boogie, were found in an unincorporated area known as "Cactus City", after her ex-husband helped lead detectives to the shallow grave, Ontario police said in a news release.

Ware was arrested at his home in Phoenix, Arizona in October. The page wrote Friday that her remains were believed to have been found.

Investigators in Ontario determined she was murdered, based in part on a forensic analysis of Jacobson's auto, police said.

Army veteran Julia Jacobson, 37, and Boogie went missing September 2 and was last seen in the Ontario area, according to police.

A search crew of more than 100 people, led by Ontario and San Diego police, and local deputies, began combing through a desert area near a rest stop in Cactus City on Wednesday.

He was brought back to California in late October and pleaded not guilty to murder charges on November 6, in West Valley Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga.

Since Jacobson's disappearance, the family has organized its own searches, canvassing her North Park neighborhood trying to find somebody that knows something. The couple had reportedly been divorced for about a year.

Friends told the San Diego Union Tribune Jacobson worked for a 7-Eleven corporate office and was an Army veteran who served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Eventually, a forensic analysis of Jacobson's vehicle led detectives to believe she had been murdered, according to the Ontario Police Department.

Ontario detectives returned to a major piece of evidence that both agencies agreed could hold more information: Jacobson's vehicle, which was found a few blocks from her home a few days after she went missing. Jon Jacobson, Julia Jacobson's brother, said his sister met Ware eight years ago and they married shortly afterward. She reportedly last texted a friend September 2 around 9:30 p.m. saying she was in the Palm Springs area and planned to travel to Big Bear Lake.
