Production has been suspended on Bohemian Rhapsody due to a'health matter affecting Bryan Singer

"Twentieth Century Fox Film has temporarily halted production on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' due to the unexpected unavailability of Bryan Singer", the studio said Friday.

Filming has been taking place in the United Kingdom with "Mr. Robot" star Rami Malek in the lead role as Freddie Mercury.

Ben Hardy is playing drummer Roger Taylor and the Hollow Crown's Gwilym Lee is guitarist Brian May with Lucy Boynton is playing Mercury's lifelong friend Mary Austin. Singer posted photos of Malek from the set in October. However, though filming seemed to be moving along according to schedule, Fox has now revealed production has halted. The decision to halt the film was taken after its director Bryan Singer's "unexpected unavailability".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film's high-profile helmer, Bryan Singer, "failed to return to set after the Thanksgiving holiday break, leaving producers nervous about the state of the production and talking about potentially replacing him". For example, insiders tell THR that producers and his star had grown exhausted of Singer's behavior, which saw him routinely show up late to set. He is best known for directing the "X-Men" franchise.

Additionally, Singer has been repeatedly tardy to set, greatly angering the cast and crew. Singer denied the allegations, saying they were, "outrageous, vicious and completely false".

Singer, also the director of The Usual Suspects, has long had accusations of child sex abuse hover over him - though, it should be said, much fewer formal accusations under the law.

Apparently, this is not the first time Bryan has disappeared during the production of a film.

The film, which is due to be released in Christmas 2018, stars Mr Robot star Rami Malek as Queen's frontman, Freddie Mercury who died of complications from HIV/AIDS in 1991 at the age of 45.
