Google might replace Play Music with YouTube Remix later this year

Google Play Music could be dead by 2019 replaced by You Tube Remix

Google Play Music could be dead by 2019 replaced by You Tube Remix

Despite initial concerns from major music labels, we heard late a year ago that Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group had joined Warner Music Group in signing deals for the upcoming service after Google assuage their fears over copyright issues on YouTube.

This is a rumor that first popped up back in December, but according to a new report from Droid Life, it's said that Google will shut down Play Music following the launch of YouTube Remix. For its part, Google hasn't commented on launch plans and only told Droid Life in a statement that "nothing will change for users today" and, if and when a new service is announced, users will have "plenty of notice before any changes are made". It'd be a forced end, meaning all Play Music users will have to give up the service.

While Remix will mostly be an on-demand music streaming service, it's also said to contain elements from YouTube such as video clips.

Inevitably, it should serve as an opportunity for Google to simplify all its various music subscription services.

If YouTube Remix replaces Play Music, what'll happen to YouTube Red?

What Will YouTube Remix Offer?

The company also will integrate it with YouTube, reports Droid. YouTube itself is a free service with a great recommendation system.

It's unclear at this time if playlists, liked songs, and saved local files will transfer over to YouTube Remix, but I've got to imagine Google's got some sort of system in place for making the transition as seamless as possible.

YouTube Remix was tipped to be something akin to Spotify, the leader in the streaming music market.

The rapid growth in streaming music services in recent years has led to a recovery in the fortunes of the global recorded music industry, which enjoyed its third year of positive revenue growth, according to a report by industry trade group IFPI. Uploading your personal music library is a big draw for lots of music fans who want to stream everything they from all of their devices.
