After a particularly brutal slash and burn at the major networks this week that saw 20 shows canceled in a 24-hour period, Gotham fans were forced to wait until the very last moment to receive news about the show. Fans breathed a sigh of relief when Lethal Weapon was renewed albeit with new leading man Seann William Scott. However, according to TV Line, an episode count has yet to be determined.

It's unclear at this time if Gotham will premiere in the autumn, as the last four seasons did, or if it will be held for mid-season should it get a reduced episode order. However, according to TV Line, part of the reasoning behind the last-minute renewal was in order to give those involved with the series a chance to wrap things up properly.

Season-to-date, the Dark Knight prequel series is averaging a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49, which includes a week's worth of delayed viewing where available.

Of course, more episodes means its easier to sell the syndication rights, so we'll just have to wait and see what Fox ultimately decides. It has been officially confirmed that Gotham is going to have the heroes and villains continuing to walk the streets of the small screen for a fifth go-round of episodes.

Gotham follows the adventures of a young Bruce Wayne (played by David Mazouz) and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) in crime-riddled Gotham City, before Wayne grows up to become Batman.
