India responsible for slow pace of 26/11 trial: Pak ex-minister

Without naming Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Maulana Masood Azhar's militant organisations, the Jamaat-ud-Dawah and Jaish-e-Mohammad, Sharif had said in an interview: Militant organisations are active in Pakistan. "What is Nawaz Sharif trying to do apart from serving his own interest?"

His remarks were played up by the Indian media as an admission of Pakistan's involvement in the terrorist attacks, even though similar questions and statements have been raised from civilian and security officials in Pakistan earlier. "Despite repeated efforts, India refused to share those facts and evidence with FIA and the investigative committee formed by Pakistani courts", he claimed. Unfortunately, he had said, a section of Pakistani electronic and social media has intentionally or unintentionally not only validated but lent credence to the malicious propaganda of Indian media without going through the full facts of the statement. The Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba which is headed by United Nations designated global terrorist Hafiz Saeed was blamed for the Mumbai bloodbath.

Ms Rehman said no democratic state would ever allow non-state actors to go maim, plunder and loot across its border.

ARY Television anchor Kashif Abbasi led the attack, commenting that Sharif had let Pakistan down to gain cheap publicity in India. The attack killed almost 166 people, including foreign nationals after 10 Pakistani gunmen spent three days spraying bullets and throwing grenades around city landmarks.

Pakistan's former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Khan on Sunday, May 13, negated Sharif's remark that Pakistan failed to finish the trial of the 26/11 attacks, saying it was instead the "uncooperative and stubbornness of the Indian government" which put up the "biggest obstacle" on the way of the trial to reach a conclusion. "Can anybody think that Nawaz Sharif will say such things", he said. Despite making sacrifices, our narrative is not being accepted. Mr Sharif also lamented that Pakistan had isolated itself.

"Terrorist organisations are active (in Pakistan)", Sharif told the Dawn newspaper in an interview.

The Modi government has made progress in the Mumbai and Pathankot attack cases one of the requirements for resumption of a dialogue process with Pakistan. "We hope that Pakistan will finally prosecute those who planned and orchestrated the terror attack in Mumbai", she said.

The spokesperson, however, clarified that the PML-N as the country's national political party and Nawaz Sharif, its supreme leader, "need no certificate from anybody on their commitment and capacity to preserve, protect and promote Pakistan's national security".
