LeBron James takes blow to jaw, leaves briefly

The Boston Celtics defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-83.

Al Horford's stats never grab headlines, but he's the Celtics' stabilizing rock.

The Cavs and Celtics will tip off at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night on ESPN. That was LeBron during the first quarter. His 42 points marked his fifth 40-point game of this postseason.

The 28-year-old was thrust into Boston's starting line-up for Game One and found himself defending against LeBron in 24 plays during the game, limiting the three-time National Basketball Association champion to five points on two-for-six from the field and two assists and forcing one turnover.

But it might have been the hustle of Smart near the end of the first half that gave the Celtics life after the Cavaliers led by double digits with under four minutes to play in the second quarter. Rozier finished with 18 points and five rebounds.

Korver added 11 points off the bench for Cleveland. J.R. Smith shot 0-for-7. Smart and Smith exchanged shoves and had to be separated, with each player being whistled for a technical foul.

Boston's balanced attack was effective again, with six players reaching double figures. He cleared the concussion protocol and returned with just a neck strain, but he wasn't quite right. Cleveland's starters were pulled with 1:48 left and the Cavs down 14.

Unhappy with Game 1's outcome and his 0-5 performance from beyond the arc, LeBron got to the TD Garden around 10 a.m. to work on his outside shot.

Tatum did not look good at all in the first quarter, while LeBron was incredible.

James was also astoundingly efficient, using his dribble to create space, while he knocked down an assortment of jump shots.

"They played better than us in Game One, so we look to redeem ourselves tonight", James said. I'm not going to sit here and guarantee that Boston wins the series against the Cavs. Smith was levied a two-game suspension for the act.

Aron Baynes and Rozier 3-pointers capped the 36-point third and sent the Celtics to the fourth up 84-77. Brown finished with 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz sat courtside.

Simply put, the C's out-hustled, out-worked and bullied Cleveland in the second half of the game. It was an inadvertent blow from Jaylen Brown on the baseline as James was passing to a teammate.

Just ask the Indiana Pacers.

If the Celtics are to be taken out of their game Tuesday, it should and would be because of James.

They aren't supposed to be here; many people picked them to lose to the Milwaukee Bucks in the opening round. "He's always done it. He's going to approach this game as one that he's going to have to lead and bounce back".

LeBron James, destroyer of worlds.

Seeing as Horford crushed the Cavs in the pick-and-roll in Game 1, it seems like an easy move to promote Thompson. Tyronn Lue inserted Tristan Thompson into the starting lineup, as expected, but it wasn't enough.

"When we've gotten off to a slow start in the first quarter or third quarter, that's resulted in losses for us this year", James said.

Maybe Lue still thinks so, but who knows?

Boston also outscored Cleveland 60-38 in the paint.

Smith said there was no malicious intent on the play. "We're just trying to get the win".

"We just can't allow that to keep happening", Smart said.
