No more Family Guy: James Murdoch to leave Fox after Disney deal

Lachlan Murdoch, a son of 21st Century Fox Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch, has been named chairman and CEO of New Fox, which will launch after 21st Century Fox sells a considerable amount of its TV and entertainment holdings to Walt Disney Co.

Lachlan's brother James - now Fox's chief executive officer - wasn't mentioned in Wednesday's statement. The announcement doesn't say anything about what will happen to current Fox CEO James Murdoch, but Bloomberg reports that he is preparing to focus on his own endeavors in technology investments.

John Nallen, now Fox's chief financial officer, will take on the expanded role of chief operating officer, 21st Century Fox said in an emailed statement.

Disney would acquire Fox's film and television studios, its FX and National Geographic cable networks, Fox's regional sports networks, its stakes Hulu and in United Kingdom pay TV provider Sky, as well as Star India. Time Warner, CNN's parent company, also owns a 10% stake.

The new Fox, which depends on approval from regulators and shareholders, will mostly be focused on USA news and sport broadcasting. Sources told CNNMoney last week that Comcast is in talks to make its own, higher bid for the business that Disney wants to buy.

There was no mention of Lachlan's brother James Murdoch in the Wednesday morning memo. Rupert Murdoch will become co-chairman, alongside his son.

After Lachlan Murdoch essentially left the family media empire in 2005, the answer appeared to be James.

'The strengths of the new company, a leader in News, Sports and Entertainment, present truly unique opportunities. "I look forward to joining Lachlan as we begin to establish new Fox". Some of Fox News' most-watched shows are also pro-Trump.

During a recent sit-down with Collider, Deadpool himself commented on the Disney-Fox deal, saying - at least from his perspective - although he hasn't heard anything new, the potential acquisition of Fox, whether it be by Disney or Comcast, hasn't affected anything regarding development and plans.
