'Overwatch' Second Anniversary Event Brings a New Map and Items

As of next week, Overwatch will have been out for two years. That also helps keep Overwatch relevant as Blizzard continues to promote its major esports project, the Overwatch League.

The Overwatch cast judging your Silver play. The fun begins on May 22 and runs through June 11, starting just two days before the actual anniversary on May 24. Also, PlayStation 4 owners can play Overwatch online without PlayStation Plus during the free weekend period. Playstation users won't be required to have a Plus account to participate.

Last year's anniversary event introduced over 100 new cosmetic items but this year, it appears we'll have a chance to pick up old items we may have missed as the promo video says all event items will return. "Competitive Mode" will include placement matches, skill rating tiers and leaderboards. If dance emotes are your thing, Doomfist, Moira and Brigitte will receive new ones.

Unlike previous year, the event will now also allow players to unlock skins from past events and replay past brawls.

The tweet also mentioned the brawls that are returning, these modes being past seasonal brawls that'll be found in the Arcade.

To get these items, Loot Boxes will be distributed via daily logins.

Blizzard is feeling pretty generous this time around, as every player who logs in to try the Anniversary event's festivities out will get one bonus Legendary Anniversary Loot Box, which guarantees one Legendary item.

Special loot boxes will also be making a appearance with Legendary Anniversary Loot Boxes guaranteeing players some rare content.
