This drive is one way people can assist those in their own city who need help.

All you need to do is leave a non-perishable food item in or by your mailbox or you can deliver it to your local post office on Saturday, May 12.

The National Association of Letter Carriers kicks off its annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive Saturday.

In 2017, Albany County donated 8,550 pounds of food during the drive, which Interfaith Good Samaritan used to provide the community with 15,000 meals, he said.

"Every year we try to up it a little bit and get our donations a little bit higher", Hoffman agreed.

"This particular drive, historically, has provided 70, 80, 90,000 pounds of food", said Deem.

"Spread the word, and help us stamp out hunger", said Maness. "Usually about one-in-five houses make donations".

As a letter carrier for over 20 years, Penny definitely sees the benefit of the Stamp out Hunger event. Food collected from Monroe County residents will then be transported to HHFB.

This is the 36th year HHFB is operating, and the 26th year for the food drive.

After the food is picked up it is taken to a variety of places, including the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

"Vegetables, fruits in light syrup, proteins like chicken and tuna, those are all great things to donate", she said. Partnering with the Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, Salina Letter Carriers, community groups, and volunteers, we're working on the issue of hunger and poverty.
