Rangers FC transfer news Ibrox club have not made an offer for Steven Gerrard's former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel

Allan McGregor, the Scotland goalkeeper who yesterday rejoined Rangers on a two-year contract, is determined to play his part in the rebuilding of the Ibrox club.

The Scotland international's contract at the Tigers was due to expire next month and despite being offered a new deal to stay at the KCOM Stadium, he has chose to move back to Rangers.

The 36-year-old Scotland global keeper was out of contract at Hull and knocked back the offer of an extension.

McGregor is new manager Steven Gerrard's second signing after this week's capture of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.

The 38-cap Scotland worldwide won three league titles, a hat-trick of Scottish Cups and five League Cup titles during his first Rangers stint.

He racked up nearly 150 appearances for the Tigers during his five years at Hull.

"When the chance came, it was an absolute no-brainer, so I'm buzzing to be back", he told Rangers TV.

Defoe endured a somewhat frustrating campaign at Bournemouth last season, scoring four goals in 26 appearances, but the Cherries remain hopeful of keeping hold of the veteran, who has two years left on his current deal.

"I started training here when I was 12 years old and it's incredible to be back".

The ambition for Rangers next season will be to close the gap to Celtic and key to that will be improving the club's home form.

"I need to sit down with Steven and go through every single thing in detail, we're doing everything on the telephone at the moment because he's not here".
