Police sources said the victims are likely students of two medical colleges from Lahore and Faisalabad who were touring the scenic Neelum valley.

The Neelum valley deputy commissioner said that around 40 tourists stopped to take pictures on the bridge, located in the Nala Jagran area of the valley, when it collapsed as it could not withstand the pressure due to overweight. The bridge-which collapsed-had only capacity to withstand weight of up to 5 persons.

A local police official confirmed the toll and said that the authorities had posted a warning near the bridge, telling visitors to walk across it in small numbers because it was only created to accommodate five people at a time.
