Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani revealed earlier this month that Trump repaid Cohen for a $130,000 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. Trump, who has denied having a sexual relationship with Daniels during his marriage to First Lady Melania Trump, said earlier this month that he reimbursed Cohen.

Trump said he was listing the reimbursements to Michael Cohen - first made public by lawyer Rudy Giuliani two weeks ago - "in the interest of transparency", even though he said he was not required to disclose them.

"In 2016 expenses were incurred by one of Donald J Trump's attorneys, Michael Cohen", Mr Trump reported in a footnote to the report.

The disclosure did not specify what the reimbursement was for, and gave just a range: $101,000-$250,000.

Apol's agency released Trump's 2018 disclosure on Wednesday.

In a letter to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, the acting director of the Office of Government Ethics, David Apol, said the payment should have been reported as a liability.

The personal financial disclosure report, which is required of top government officials, offers an insight into the USA president's vast property and business network.

The report also provides insight into the president's still-vast real estate empire, which Trump continues to own while the day-to-day management is handled by family. Among his holdings, he took in $25 million from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The payment has been central to complaints filed by watchdog groups alleging that Trump, his campaign and Cohen violated campaign finance laws when Daniels was paid shortly before the election and then further broke the law when the payment was not disclosed in previous filings.

Ethics experts say that if that money isn't disclosed, Trump could be in violation of ethics laws for failing to disclose a reportable item, a violation for which others have been prosecuted.

The US Office of Government Ethics released the 92-page document, which relates to the calendar year 2017.

The ethics disclosure also contained information on Trump's personal businesses. When Trump took office, he refused to fully divest from his global business, instead putting his assets in a trust controlled by his two sons and a senior executive.
