"We expect to win 125-130 seats".

An estimated 70 per cent of the over 4.96 crore voters exercised their franchise on Saturday to choose a new Karnataka assembly in one of the most high-profile and bitterly fought elections in the recent times.

It is known news that Siddaramaiah also came from JDS party and he earlier worked under the leadership of Deve gowda.

With senior dalit leaders in the Congress party getting more vocal about their chief ministerial aspirations, the possibility of sweeping a clear majority and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah getting a second term as chief minister, this seems to be the indication. He was addressing media persons in Kalburgi today in the state after celebrating his 50th marriage anniversary. "And finally, to all the workers of the Congress party - I am indebted to you for all your efforts", chief minister Siddaramaiah said in a tweet.

Voting for the Karnataka Assembly polls took place on Saturday. "It is the prerogative of the party high command and the MLAs to choose the CM", said Siddaramaiah.

Mr. Siddaramaiah told reporters here he did not find the electoral contest with JD (S) candidate G.T. Deve Gowda in Chamundeshwari very tough. Soon after its exit poll predictions with VMR projected the Congress as the single largest party, the channel announced that it was going to broadcast another exit poll numbers.

Dr Parameshwara said the Congress party's surveys were more reliable as they covered the entire State unlike the limited sample size of the exit polls.

"I have been in Karnataka politics for long. I can not talk about what may happen later based on assumptions or exit poll verdicts", he said pointing out that exit polls have proved wrong in the past too and even in 2013, when exit polls came out with similar findings.

If the Congress wins Karnataka, central BJP government can follow the Karnataka example in taking its employees' problem to win the 2019 general elections. The BJP ended up winning just 99 seats.

While the Congress' Rahul Gandhi continued his temple, mosque and Catholic bishop visits, BJP star campaigners made it a point to invoke blessings from 12th century social philosopher Basaveshwara whose followers, the Lingayats, constitute the largest caste bloc in the state (18 percent, including BJP CM candidate BS Yeddyurappa). I have completed five years today.

However, this is also a crucial election for the BJP, which has won in Karnataka only once before.
