Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Thursday the national cricket team was a source of pride to the war-ravaged country as it took on India in a historic first test match and he urged other cricketing nations to take on the team.

Dhawan's century came off just 88 balls and was punctuated with 19 fours and three sixes. Dhawan looked in sublime touch right from the start, punishing the pace duo of Yamin Ahmadzai and Wafadar for glorious boundaries before sending his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Rashid Khan to the cleaners. Before lunch, Rashid bowled 7 overs and conceded 51 runs from it.

He became the first Indian to score a hundred in the first session of a Test match and he didn't know about it till he came back to the dressing room.

Dhawan looked unstoppable and got to his seventh Test ton in a mere 87 balls even as the Afghan spin trio of Nabi, Rashid and Mujeeb seemed all at sea with this format.

But Rahane, who is standing in as captain for Virat Kohli, said there was no room for complacency in cricket. Afghanistan skipper Asghar Stanikzai, likewise, said: "Very proud moment".

India were soon 284 for three in the next over after KL Rahul, who made 54, played on from Ahmadzai's delivery. Rashid finally got a wicket after spending over 100 runs with that of Ajinkya Rahane, Indian wicketkeeper in the game Dinesh Karthik was run out for 4 towards the end of the day's play and India went into stumps on 347/6.

For Afghanistan, Afsar Zazai will keep the wicket while two frontline spinners - Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman - are also part of the Playing XI. Considering Indian grounds as their second Home ground, Afghanistan will take this as an advantage to show their cricket skills to the world against the number one Test cricket team India. Hardik Pandya was 10 not out and Ravichandran Ashwin was on seven.
