THE owner of a Hanoi noodle shop where Anthony Bourdain slurped down "bun cha" with former United States president Barack Obama expressed her shock and sorrow today over the death of the globetrotting celebrity chef. "Money beyond his wildest dreams", she continued.

Bourdain, who hosted CNN's "Parts Unknown", was found dead in his hotel room Friday.

His 1999 New Yorker article, "Don't Eat Before Reading This", brought readers into the NY kitchens where Bourdain worked for years.

Fans of Anthony Bourdain have been joined by former USA president Barack Obama and United Kingdom celebrity chefs in mourning his loss.

Ripert, Bourdain and the crew of the CNN show had travelled early last week to the medieval village of Kayserberg in northeastern France to film an episode on german shepherd food.

Before his death, Bourdain was also supporting his girlfriend Asia Argento after she told The New Yorker she had been raped by Harvey Weinstein. The wildly popular chef and television star died just days ago.

Malaysia's very own celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, better known as Chef Wan, recalled how he tried to make Bourdain laugh during their time together when filming Bourdain's show, "No Reservation". In an essay written after fellow chef Mario Batali was accused of sexual assault, Bourdain wrote that "one must pick a side".

"This wonderful couple is a danger to no one", Bourdain wrote in a Post column at the time.

"It never struck me as peculiar, but it was as if he gave everything to his work and then had nothing, zero, left for himself afterwards", the source told People. "You will always travel with me".

"(Bourdain) was a nice, friendly and folksy person. "You think it's probably a fake", the restaurant's sommelier, Herve Fleuriel, told The AP, recalling "that great Chef who was here on Wednesday lunch".

In a 2008 interview with The Associated Press, Bourdain had said his daughter's birth had changed his outlook on life: "I feel obliged to at least do the best I can and not do anything really stupidly self-destructive if I can avoid it".

Others in the top 10 were "Appetites: A Cookbook" (2016) at No. 6, "Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook" (2005) at No.8, and "A Cook's Tour: Global Adventures in Extreme Cuisines" (2002) at No. 9. "You can get a master's in diplomacy, but that doesn't mean anything until you go out and engage with people".

And, with that, it's probably safe to say that Obama spoke for all of us.

A self-acknowledged reformed addict of heroin and cocaine - "I would have robbed your medicine cabinet had I been invited to your house", he confessed in a 2013 Ask Me Anything session on Reddit - Bourdain was loved by those in the food world and beyond.
