Pompeo Warns North Korea: 'Irreversible Denuclearization' Only Acceptable Outcome

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has arrived in Singapore, hours before President Donald Trump is set to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the first time.

Kim's ventures in Singapore come ahead of Tuesday's historic summit with President Trump, which will be the first meeting between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader.

Since his election as president in November 2018, several media houses have been vehement critics of the U.S. president and his policies-unswayed by his constant "FAKE NEWS" attacks-and they made no exception with their comments on the Trump-Kim meeting.

In Singapore, the island city-state hosting the summit, the sense of anticipation was palpable, with people lining spotless streets Monday waving cellphones as Trump headed to meet Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The summit will be the first between a North Korean leader and a sitting American president. Following the initial greeting, President Trump and Chairman Kim will participate in a one-on-one meeting, with translators only, an expanded bilateral meeting, and a working lunch. The White House says that this change of plans is a product of talks moving more quickly than expected.

Kim is expected to stay at the St Regis hotel and Trump at the Shangri-La, both in the Tanglin area in downtown Singapore.

The Trump administration is pushing for Pyongyang to dismantle its nuclear weapons program, an action South Korea has said Kim is willing to take.

'Cheating Every Time' North Korea has previously promised to denuclearize, only to continue its nuclear program after receiving concessions from the United States, said Michael J. Green, senior vice president for Asia and Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Some observers insist that it's the beginning of the complete denuclearisation of North Korea.

As anticipation for his historic summit with North Korea has ratcheted up, salesman in chief Donald Trump has done something out of character: ratcheted expectations down.

Shanmugam said that four people have been turned away at Singapore's immigration checkpoints in the lead-up to the summit. "We can go fast, we can go slowly", Trump said.

Sporadic provocations by the North have continued while Pyongyang has made increasing advances in its nuclear arsenal, which it says it needs to defend against the risk of a USA invasion.

Trump had called Kim "Little Rocket Man" and threatened to unleash "fire and fury like the world has never seen" on North Korea as it conducted several ballistic missile tests in defiance of global warnings.

Success in Singapore would see Kim making a bold decision to exchange his nukes for economic support and security assurances, according to Ryan Haas, an Asia expert at the John L Thornton China Center.

The secrecy of the North Korean leader's health is, apparently, paramount. It brings the president more in line with veteran diplomats who have dealt with North Korea and know firsthand the difficulty of extracting verifiable concessions, and it helps ensure that - whatever happens on Tuesday - the president can tout it as a win.
