Resident Evil 2 Remake Revealed, January 2019 Release Date Confirmed

As an aside, the Resident Evil 2 remake will also feature modes from the original game. Both Leon and Claire have their own separate playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters' perspectives. While Sony nor Capcom announced a price for the game, this title will make its way to the PlayStation 4 console on January 25, 2019.

Resident Evil is Capcom's flagship game series with more than 83 million in total unit sales since the original entry dropped back in 1996. And with the new graphics put to work on the blood, guts, and gore - not to mention the new bloodcurdling audio - the game looks to be just as scary as the original. The original Resident Evil 2 game was released on January 21, 1998 for the original PlayStation, GameCube, and a few other platforms. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a game that just got its first trailer. In the first video, the game appears to adopt Resident Evil 4's over-the-shoulder perspective as Leon S. Kennedy reports to the Raccoon City Police Department on the day a zombie outbreak has claimed nearly everyone. They'll also be photo-realisitic visuals in 4K.

Attendees at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (Los Angeles, June 12-14) can get an early preview with the first hands-on demo opportunity for Resident Evil 2 at Capcom's booth. Leon S. Kennedy is a rookie cop who finds himself tied up in the madness of Raccoon City when he reports in for the world's worst first day on the job, while Claire Redfield is a street savvy college student who defies the danger of the city as she searches for her brother, Chris. Players will feel they're in the shoes of heroes Leon and Claire, terrified to step out of the light for fear of what flesh-eating nightmares might await them in the darkness.
