Almost 24 hours after the release of the Department of Justice inspector general's investigation, President Trump tweeted his reaction, calling the blistering report a "total disaster" for former FBI Director James Comey and his "minions".

Trump later added that he had tried to stay "uninvolved" in the Justice Department, stating Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was "not happy" with the IG report.

Judge Andrew Napolitano said there was "very little" new information revealed by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz in his highly-anticipated report on the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails.

Not much else is known about Horowitz's review, though in March, the inspector general's office said it "will consider including other issues that may arise during the course of the review" if circumstances warrant. The male agent was one of two agents who had interviewed Clinton for the investigation.

The departments inspector general report, while critical of the FBI and Comey personally, did not find evidence that political bias tainted the investigation of Clintons email practices in the months and days leading up to Trumps election.

The Justice Department's handling of the investigation into Clinton was attacked by Democrats and Republicans alike.

"I did a great service to the people in firing him", the president wrote, justifying his firing of Comey.

The report lambastes Strzok and a now-retired Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer, Lisa Page, for text exchanges that it says were "deeply troubling" and created the appearance "that investigative decisions were impacted by bias or improper considerations".

"No. No he won't. We'll stop it", Mr Strzok responded.

But a almost two-year investigation by the Justice Department's watchdog found no evidence that those private sentiments expressed by Strzok actually influenced his work. But Republicans in Trump's own government think it's worth spending a year-plus looking into whether his campaign worked with Russian Federation to influence the 2016 election.

Citing text messages written by FBI agent Peter Strzok, who said in one message that he would "stop" then-candidate from being elected, the report notes that federal investigators may have been "willing to take official action to impact a presidential candidate's electoral prospects".

"Doesn't get any lower than that!" he wrote.

Trump has been eager for the report in hopes that it would vindicate his decision to fire Comey and undermine special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

FBI Director Chris Wray told reporters the FBI accepted the report's findings and was making changes, including requiring further training for FBI employees and re-emphasizing the importance of objectivity.

In fact, she argued, this dynamic stretches into the present and explains why Trump is so obsessed with going after the Justice Department.

The report also faulted Comey for being insubordinate to his superiors during the investigation and breaking with FBI norms.

"I think that the report yesterday - maybe more importantly than anything - it totally exonerates me".
