Franklin was forced to cancel scheduled concerts in March and April of this year per doctor's orders, including her gig at the legendary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. "They took me to a concert and remember watching her backstage with her fur and diamonds commanding the room like a boss".

Reverend Jesse Jackson is also thought to have paid a visit to see the music legend.

A spokeswoman for the Franklin family confirmed the visits and said in a statement that Ms. Franklin, 76, is "seriously ill and surrounded by family members who appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received". "She has always been a very private person and the last thing she wanted was to reveal this hard time in her life with her fans".

TMZ reported that a source close to Franklin said that those close to her were told two weeks ago that "she could go any time" and that her weight had fallen to 85 lbs. "My brother was there on Saturday and she was alert, talking, laughing, joking", he continued. "We hope you'll lift her up by listening and sharing her songs that have meant the most to you", Clinton tweeted.

Robert Smith, the church's current pastor, says the world-famous singer never forgot her roots in the Motor City, where after years of declining health she is reportedly at home in hospice care.

"We believe she'll pull through it, she believes she'll pull through it, and that's the important thing", Tim Franklin added. Look at Aretha Franklin's complete Official UK Chart history here.
