England vs. India, second Test: Tourists facing defeat at Lord's

When Woakes came to the crease England were, if not in trouble - India's capitulation on Friday for 107 meant that was already off the table - at the least undergoing the latest performance from a top order that refuses to be anything other than shaky. He was fortunate to enter the fray with the ball no longer swinging as it had throughout the match and India's bowling attack - undoubtedly rueing the decision to pick two spinners - either tiring or ineffective.

Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes celebrate their partnership on the third day of the second Test at Lord's between England and India.

Veteran quick James Anderson starred with the ball taking five wickets to help England bowl India out for a paltry 107 at stumps on a rain-truncated second day of the second Test at Lord's here on Friday.

For the tourists it seems their only hope of avoiding defeat and going 2-0 down in the five-match series is to perform a rain dance and hope the heavens open.

In the brief morning session, Anderson got England off to a fine start, clean bowling opener Murali Vijay before removing Lokesh Rahul, who was caught behind by keeper Jonny Bairstow.

On Friday, during the rain-affected day two of the second Test, Arjun, who is now in London for a training session with MCC Young Cricketers, helped out the grand staff at Lord's.

This was a day in three parts - all interspersed by showers - with the first dominated by Anderson, the second by a horrendous run-out of Cheteshwar Pujara and the third by Woakes and Anderson again.

Even though Bairstow was the more senior of the pair, it was Woakes who looked the more impressive, driving, cutting and pulling the ball with authority around the Lord's outfield.

The only sadness for England was that Bairstow did not reach three figures as well.

After an assured start Keaton Jennings was the first to depart, LBW to Mohammed Shami (two for 27) for 11.

But, on 28, Pope missed a straight delivery from Hardik Pandya and had to depart.

The wicket, which left India 15-3, prompted a downpour so heavy the rest of the players sprinted off the field and overtook a crestfallen Pujara on the boundary rope.
