YouTube jumps into action as viral film trailer terrifies unsuspecting viewers

The Nun

The Nun

According to YouTube's policy on violent and shocking content in advertisements, administrators have the right to pull marketing containing profane language, discriminatory terms, gruesome imagery, promotions that are "likely to shock or scare" as well as videos that are capitalizing on sensitive events.

Filmmaker James Wan, who's now working on the Aquaman movie, directed both the record-setting horror hits The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2.

Well, you might want to steer clear of The Conjuring spin-off The Nun.

The move appears to have been instigated by one person's warning posted Sunday on Twitter, a post that has been retweeted more than 135,000 times since then.

YouTube has had to remove a truly horrifying six second ad for upcoming horror film 'The Nun', because holy shit, it was way too scary. Following the backlash, YouTube took off The Nun ad but there are still many places and channels where you can view the banned advertisement. "I advise you look away and/or turn down the volume if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jump scares, please retweet to save a life".

The link in the YouTube tweet goes to their FAQ on "Violent and shocking content in ads". "This ad violates our shocking content policy and it's no longer running as an ad".

Though the ad has been removed from the platform, you can still watch the full trailer of The Nun - that's if you can fearless it. If you dare head to the cinema to watch it.

The film is also set to star Demian Bichir, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu and Bonnie Aarons.

The Nun arrives in theatres on September 7, and we're guessing this whole YouTube controversy will only help - rather than hurt - the film at the box office. Set in 1952 Romania, the film follows the investigation of the mysterious death of a nun at a monastery.
