The Seattle Storm take a 2-0 lead into Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in Washington D.C

This was inside EagleBank Arena, a college basketball arena that hosted the WNBA Finals where the Storm won its third league championship.

The victory catapulted the Storm to an unassailable 3-0 lead and series sweep in the best-of-five WNBA Finals.

Stewart was the league MVP and was selected the Finals MVP after averaging 25.6 points in the three games.

Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart fretted following the regular-season opener after the Seattle Storm lost at home to the Phoenix Mercury.

But it was also a coming out party for Stewart, the league MVP, who delivered time and again. Atkins cemented herself as the Mystics' starting three with her speed and defensive effort, and it didn't hurt that she averaged 20.1 points per 40 minutes in the regular season. Bird said. "That's when I knew it was over".

The Storm were 27-3 this season when leading after the third quarter heading into the game.

"I'm sure [President Trump] is going to say we're not invited anyway", the Storm guard told KING 5, "so it all works out well". Natasha Howard, the best player on the court on Wednesday, added a put-back, and Sami Whitcomb came off the bench to drain a three-pointer. I was able to get to the free-throw line.

The main "reinforcement" Thibault was referring to is center Emma Meesseman, who took the WNBA season off to prepare for the FIBA Women's World Cup with the Belgian national team.

Despite losing in their first Finals appearance in the team's 21-year history, Thibault and the Mystics know that the 9,000-plus fans who traveled 20 miles outside of Washington, D.C., and piled into Eagle Bank Arena know their team, for the first time in nearly a decade, has a bright future. Obviously this Finals didn't go the way we wanted it to, but I think the great thing is that we can still improve.

But this one felt much different.

"We feel like we have a lot of young, great talent", Delle Donne said.

And Wednesday, Bird tallied 10 assists, her career high for the Finals, while scoring 10 points, including a pair of dagger three-pointers in the fourth quarter. But, as he pointed out, especially in the WNBA where a majority of players play year-round and are injury prone, winning a title takes the luck of being healthy all year. "I didn't coach her on the U-17 team in 2010 but I saw her. Now I can go to the bar and order her everything she needs". Delle Donne waxed poetic about how close the team has become.

The fans crescendoed with every big moment and let the referees, in particular, know just how passionate they were about their team.

It's only fitting she closed out the season with a double-double. "To do it with this group, the way we did it, I don't even know how to react".
